Steps to Use Facility Kitchens
STEP 1: Visit Facility Kitchens. During your visit, you will:
- Fill in an application
- Tour the facility, and
- Pick up your Client Packet
You will learn about us. We will find out what you will produce and what you need from us. With your Client Packet in hand, you will have all the paperwork, in one spot, to help you complete Step 2, 3, 4, & 5.
STEP 2: Using the paperwork in your Client Packet, Obtain and document that you have:
- Insurance – Get a liability insurance policy listing Facility Kitchens as the additional insured for $1,000,000. (It is less expensive than you might think, and most wholesalers and retailers you do business with will require this too.)
- A license from the Kent County Health Department &/or the Michigan Department of Agriculture to operate as a FOOD ESTABLISHMENT. Which license you need depends on how you will sell your product. Your Client Packet has the forms you need. You may also see them online at Kent County www.accesskent.com/health/healthdepartment & Mi. Department of Agriculture www.michigan.gov/mda.
STEP 3: Read and sign Facility Kitchen’s operating agreement
STEP 4: Read and sign Facility Kitchen’s policies and procedures manual
STEP 5: Place a deposit of $250.00 before renting the kitchen. If you leave everything ok, we will return it after your rental session, or you may leave it on deposit with us.
Cooking for Fun Events
You do not need insurance, a license or food safety certification. Just read and sign the agreement and our procedures and sign a statement that you will not sell any food produced in Facility Kitchens.
